Instagram never stops fighting against nudity. A few weeks after deleting the account of Australian naturist blogger Jessa O’Brien, the social network finally recanted by putting his photos back online, further blurring his nude policy.
On her account, Jessa O’Brien posts photos of herself, naked, from behind, facing beautiful landscapes. The “naked blogger” Instagram account celebrates body positivity and wants to disconnect nudity from sexuality. By posting photos of her body, she wants to play down nudity and show her body for what it is, not what others want it to be.
His series of photos did not really please the Instagram teams who decided to delete his account, explains the site of The Independant. A decision resented by the Australian blogger, who claims not to have been warned by Instagram: “Not even a warning. Not a word from Instagram customer service at the time, even after countless attempts to contact them. »
Breastfeeding, yes, nipple no!
Explanation: by posing nude, the blogger came close to the limits of social network censorship. Indeed, the rules are very strict on nudity: it no pictures of boobs but also the “butt close-ups”.
(…) For a number of reasons we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and other digital content featuring sexual intercourse, genitalia, or close-up shots of fully exposed buttocks. This also includes some photos of nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scars and women actively breastfeeding a child are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is also acceptable. Obviously, by deleting this account, Instagram triggered a “Streisand effect” on this case: by wanting to hide these nude photos, they focused the attention of social networks on this case. Thanks to a strong mobilization, Jessa O’Brien finally won her case: the reactivation of her account.
She took the opportunity to publish a vengeful post on her account, assuring that this policy against nudity was a justification for her fight. “Deactivating my account is one of the best things that could happen to my body-positive post.” She also wanted to thank her followers. “You just helped prove to the world that body positivity and non-sexual nudity is okay. »
In the photo, she is holding a “F*ck you, Instagram” sign. Not sure that this photo does not earn him a new deletion. His fans appreciate it: the post has been “liked” more than 1,200 times.
